Cougars to Take on Jayhawks in 2012 CBE Classic
July 26, 2012 KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Washington State University men's basketball will face 2012 NCAA Tournament runner-up, Kansas, in the semifinals of the 2012 College Basketball Experience (CBE) Hall of Fame Classic, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Thursday. Washington State and Kansas are joined by Saint Louis and Texas A&M as the four Host Round participants for this year's CBE Hall of Fame Classic, with the opening round games beginning Nov. 9. Each team will play two games on campus before advancing to the Championship Rounds, Nov. 19-20, at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Cougars' first two games of the 2012-13 season will be their Host Round games as Eastern Washington comes to Pullman , Saturday, Nov. 10, followed by Utah Valley, Wednesday, Nov. 14. Saturday's game time with the Eagles is yet to be determined because it falls the same day the WSU football team hosts UCLA at Martin Stadium. The matchup with Utah Valley is set for 7 p.m. PT. Joining Kansas, Saint Louis, Texas A&M, Washington State, Eastern Washington and Utah Valley in the 2012 CBE Hall of Fame Classic are Louisiana Tech, Santa Clara, Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Troy, and USC Upstate. Santa Clara and Chattanooga will serve as Sub-Hosts for games played November 18-23. ESPN Networks will televise the four Championship Round games. The Semifinal Doubleheader featuring Texas A&M and Saint Louis will air on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m. PT, followed by Washington State and Kansas on ESPN2. The next evening, the Consolation Game will be shown on ESPN3 at 4 p.m. PT, followed by the Championship Game on ESPNU. The 2011 CBE Classic Champion was Missouri, ranked No. 21 at the time, which defeated then-No. 18 California, 92-53, in the Championship Game. Missouri senior guard and Kansas City-native Marcus Denmon captured the 2011 CBE Classic Most Valuable Player Award, after scoring 26 points vs. Notre Dame in the semifinals and 18 points vs. California. The CBE Hall of Fame Classic is named after the College Basketball Experience, the award-winning and highly interactive college basketball fan facility adjacent to Sprint Center, which also features the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Opened in October 2007, the College Basketball Experience is the nation's only facility that celebrates, in its entirety, the sport of men's collegiate basketball. The National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame hosts an Induction Celebration on the Sunday before the tournament, celebrating Hall of Fame collegiate careers. The tournament, in partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), was initially established in 2001 as the Guardians Classic. Founded in 1927, the NABC, since its inception, has acted as a guardian of the game of basketball by furthering the best interests of the game as well as the players and coaches who participate. The NABC engages in many efforts to enhance the college basketball experience for players, coaches and fans.
