PULLMAN, Wash. - James Hunter (Sydney, Australia/Gillette College-Wyo.) has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete with the Washington State University men's basketball team beginning next season, head coach Ken Bone announced Wednesday.

"James is another addition that will bring much-needed height, size and experience to our program for the next three years," Bone said. "We're excited about the signing of James, and we look for him to contribute for us early in his Cougar career."

Hunter (6-foot-9, 250, C) played one season at Gillette College in Wyoming after competing at Cranbrook School near Sydney, Australia. In his only season at Gillette College in 2011-12, Hunter averaged 13.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game. He is tied for second on the Pronghorns' single-game blocks list after recording five twice as a rookie. He also is tied for the record and holds the number three spot for single-game offensive rebounds after recording nine against Western Wyoming Jan. 11 and eight against Midwest Elite Dec. 3.

Hunter was a three-year member of the basketball team at Cranbrook, serving as team captain as a senior. That year, he averaged 26.5 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.4 steals and 4.4 blocks per game, leading his team in scoring and rebounding. In September of 2009, he was selected to represent Australia as part of the Australian Schoolboys' basketball team which traveled to the United States to compete in tournaments throughout North Carolina over a two-week period. Previously, Hunter had been selected for the NSW Schoolboys State team and competed in the School Sport Australia Basketball Championship.

The Cougars return eight letterwinners, including three starters, from last season's team that reached the championship round of the 2012 College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
