March 11, 2013
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University men's basketball senior Brock Motum has been named the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of March 4-10, the conference announced Monday. Motum, a native of Brisbane, Australia, tallied two double-doubles on the weekend as the Cougars swept the Los Angeles schools for the first time since the 2003-04 season. Washington State defeated No. 23 UCLA, 73-61, March 6, in which Motum scored 21 points while grabbing 11 rebounds, dishing out three assists and grabbing a steal on the night. The win was the Cougars' first home win over UCLA since 1993 and its first win over a ranked opponent since the 2010-11 season. The 11-point victory over the Bruins is just WSU's fourth double-figure win over UCLA since 1938. On senior day against USC, March 9, Motum helped boost the Cougars to a 76-51 victory over the Trojans. Motum scored 31 points to lead the team and earn his fifth double-double on the season as he added 10 rebounds. He went 11-for-22 (.500) from the field and 3-for-9 (.333) from three-point range. In addition, Motum had an assist, two blocks and two steals on the day. The 6-foot-10 forward played all but two minutes on the weekend averaging 25.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game. He moved up to fifth on WSU's all-time scoring list with a total of 1,502 career points, passing Mark Hendrickson.. This is Motum's third career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor after earning his second earlier this season Dec. 10. It is the 27th all-time selection for Washington State. Motum becomes the fourth Cougar to earn conference player of the week honors twice in the same season, and just the second to be named player of the week at least three times in his career. Klay Thompson was named league player of the week four times in his career, twice in 2009-10 and twice in 2010-11.
The Pac-12 Men's Basketball Tournament kicks-off on Wednesday, March 13. The 11th-seeded Cougars face sixth-seeded Washington in game four with an approximate tip time of 8:36 p.m. PT. The game will be shown on the Pac-12 Networks. 2012-13 Pac-12 Players of the Week
