LOS ANGELES (AP) - Washington State's Jeff Varem scored 12 points, including 10 free throws in the final six minutes, to lift the Cougars to a 60-51 victory Saturday night over USC.

The victory, coupled with the Cougars' 55-48 triumph at UCLA on Thursday night, gave Washington State its first-ever road sweep of the Pacific 10 Conference's Los Angeles teams.

Washington State (11-10, 5-6 Pac-10) , which beat USC, 76-61, in Spokane on Jan. 10, also recorded its first two-game home-and-away sweep of the Trojans (9-11, 4-7 Pac-10) since 1986.

Varem scored only two points in the first half against USC, but was fouled on five consecutive possessions after USC had trimmed a 42-32 deficit to 47-44.

The Cougars didn't go to the foul line in the first half, but made 16 of 21 free throws in the second half.

Marcus Moore led Washington State with 14 points, followed by Thomas Kelati with 13, including three 3-point field goals.

Desmon Farmer led USC with 17 points, but missed seven of his 12 free throws.

Overall, the Trojans made eight of their 20 foul shots. They missed all five free throws tries in the first half, four of the misses by Farmer.

Washington State didn't score a point for the first seven minutes and eight seconds of the game, as USC raced to a 9-0 lead.

But Chris Schlatter's 3-point basket started a 12-0 run for the Cougars over the next five minutes.

After the Trojans regained the lead at 13-12, Washington State scored seven points in a row on the way to a 26-18 halftime advantage.
