PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Jimmie Haywood scored a career-high 23 points, including the game-winning free throws with less than a second remaining, to lead Oregon State to a 74-72 victory over Washington State Thursday night.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Oregon State (9-9, 2-6 Pac-10). Washington State (4-13, 0-8) has now lost its last 11 games.

Marcus Moore, one of five Washington State players to score in double figures, led the Cougars with 17 points.

Haywood scored 14 points in the second half, including five in the last 1:08.

With 6.2 seconds left and the game tied at 72, Haywood stripped the ball from Moore at halfcourt and was fouled with .9 seconds remaining. He made both free throws to give the Beavers their first victory since a 78-55 win against Lehigh on Dec. 31.

Washington State shot 54 percent from the field, but Oregon State countered with 60 percent.

Oregon State trailed much of the first half, but used a 10-3 run midway through the second half to take a 54-48 lead with 12:51 remaining.
