CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Philip Ricci scored 17 points and had a career-high 15 rebounds as Oregon State pulled away to defeat Washington State 63-48 on Thursday.

Jimmie Haywood added 13 points for the Beavers (8-7, 1-5 Pacific-10). It was the first Pac-10 win for rookie coach Jay John.

Chris Schlatter and Thomas Kelati led the Cougars (5-11, 0-6) with 12 points each.

Washington State led 17-13 with 8:55 left in the first half, but the Beavers went on a 17-6 run to go into halftime with a 30-23 lead.

The Beavers pulled away in the second half, increasing the lead to 52-37 at 7:41. They led by as many as 18 points, but didnt score in the last three minutes.

The Cougars shot just 30 percent in the first half, and got colder in the second half, hitting 24 percent. They were playing their first game without Marcus Moore, the Pac-10's second-leading scorer who was lost for the season after opting to have surgery to fix bone spurs on his right ankle.
