PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Joe Shipp scored 33 points to lead California past Washington State 76-63 on Saturday.

Brian Wethers and Amit Tamir added 13 points each as the Bears (12-2, 5-0 Pac-10) posted their fifth straight win. The 5-0 start in league play is California's best since the 1956-57 Bears started 10-0 in the Pacific Coast Conference.

Thomas Kelati led Washington State (5-10, 0-6) with 15 points, all on 3-pointers in the second half. The Cougars, who have lost six straight, played without two starters and two key reserves due to injuries. Marcus Moore, scoring leader for the season, played on a bad ankle and scored nine points, 11 below his average.

Shipp, scoring inside and outside off a variety of moves and shots, went 14-for-18 from the field and 4-for-4 at the free-throw line. The Pac-10 scoring leader scored 21 points in the first half in his fourth 30-point game of the season.

The Bears never trailed. They took control with a 10-1 run midway through the first half, expanding their lead to 27-17.

The Cougars shot well on 3-pointers early in the second half and narrowed the gap twice to seven points.

California outshot WSU 53 percent to 40 percent from the field. Tamir had 12 rebounds, helping the Bears outrebound the Cougars 34-27.
