Dec. 13, 2011

SYDNEY, Australia - Alex Burg, a member of Washington State University's 2009 NCAA postseason team, has been named to World All-Stars and will participate in this year's Australian Baseball League All-Star Game.

The event will take place Dec. 21 in Perth, Australia and will pit Team Australia against the World All-Stars. The latter's roster consists of players from Canada, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

Burg is a member of the Perth Heat, which owns a league-best 15-4 record. He is tied for ABL lead with six home runs and ranks fourth in RBI (17) and slugging percentage (.608). He is fifth in the league with a .992 OPS and is batting .324.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Burg played two seasons (2008-09) for the Cougars after transferring to Washington State from Clemson. He started 82 games for the Cougars, batted .313, belted nine home runs and collected 47 RBI.

Burg played multiple positions at Washington State and was selected by the San Francisco Giants as a catcher in the 24th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

After sitting out the 2009 Minor League Baseball season due to injury, Burg has made four stops in the Giants' organization over the last two seasons. He owns a .283 career batting average as a professional and hit 14 home runs for the San Jose Giants in the Advanced A California League during 2011.
