Baseball America Hands Out Summer Awards

DURHAM, N.C. - Five members of the Washington State baseball team were named top prospects for the 2009 summer collegiate leagues by Baseball America, Tuesday. The five selections tied the Cougars with Mississippi for the most in the nation.

Left-handed pitcher Adam Conley was No.7 and right-hander Chad Arnold was No. 8 in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Pitching for the Keene (N.H.) Swamp Bats Conley recorded 37 strikeouts while allowing 14 hits, 11 walks and one unearned run in 34 and one-third innings. He was 2-0 with a save in eight games, including four starts. Arnold was 3-1 with a 2.68 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 40 and one-third innings for the Newport (R.I.) Gulls.

Southpaw Rusty Shellhorn was No. 9 in the Prospect League while playing for the North Coast Knights in Lorain, Ohio. He led the league with eight wins and 89 strikeouts and was fourth with a 1.45 earned run average.

In the West Coast League, right-handed pitcher Seth Harvey was No. 7 and outfielder Kyle Johnson was No. 10. Harvey notched 11 saves and fanned 32 in 27 and one-third innings for the Bellingham Bells and Johnson led the Wenatchee AppleSox to a league title by batting .340 with 25 RBI and 18 stolen bases.
