Cougar Pair Named All-West Region

EUGENE, Ore. - Washington State first baseman Taylor Ard and outfielder Derek Jones were named to the 2012 All-West Region Team, as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings, Friday. Ard earned first team honors for the second-straight season. He batted .332 and was ranked in the Pac-12's top 10 for home runs (12), RBI (50), total bases (127) and slugging percentage (.577). The Vancouver, Wash., native finished his career with a .577 slugging percentage, seventh all-time at Washington State. He is currently playing with the Everett AquaSox in the Northwest League, the Short-Season A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Jones garnered a second team honor. He batted .335 and was among the Pac-12 leaders in doubles (17), home runs (nine), on-base percentage (.438), slugging percentage (.574) and walks (31). He is the Cougar career record holder for home runs with 41 and ranks on the Washington State all-time top 10 in total bases (third), hit by pitch (tied-fourth), RBI (fifth), at bats (fifth), games (seventh), outfield assists (tied-seventh), runs (ninth) and hits (10th). The Snohomish, Wash., native is currently playing with the Tri-City Dust Devils in the Northwest League, the Short-Season A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
