June 3, 2009

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State University senior catcher Greg Lagreid is the recipient of the 2009 Toyo Tires Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete award.

Lagreid is a native of Edmonds, Wash., and carried a 3.48 grade point average in finance. He batted .332 and led Washington State in doubles (13) and RBI (42). He was a Pac-10 All-Academic First Team selection and received Pac-10 honorable mention for his accomplishments on the diamond. He was a semifinalist for the Johnny Bench Award presented to the nation's top catcher.

In order to be eligible for the Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-10 institution nominates one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-10 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season. The athletic accomplishments of the nominees are a consideration in the voting for the award.
