Derek Jones Named Freshman All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. - Washington State outfielder Derek Jones was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team presented by Collegiate Baseball, Wednesday. A native of Snohomish, Wash., tied the Cougar freshman record for home runs with 12. His record-tying blast came at the NCAA Division I Norman Regional and gave WSU the lead for good in a 3-2 victory over Wichita State, the Cougars first NCAA postseason win since 1990. Jones placed on the all-time WSU freshman list in walks (second, 31), RBI (fourth, 37), games (tied-fifth, 57), total bases (tied-sixth, 91) and slugging percentage (10th, .450).
