INDIANAPOLIS - For the second-straight season, the Washington State University baseball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Championship. The announcement came Monday that the Cougars will take part in the postseason in back-to-back years for the first time since 1987-88.

Washington State (34-20, 15-12 Pacific-10) finished third in the Pac-10 and was one of 34 at-large recipients to the 64-team field. The Cougars have won 12 of their last 15 games and are the No. 2 seed in the Fayetteville, Ark., Regional hosted by Arkansas and will play No. 3 seed Kansas State (36-20), Friday, June 4. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Central/5:05 p.m. Pacific. The Razorbacks are the top seed in the regional and play No. 4 seed Grambling in Friday's other match-up.

"Our kids are well prepared," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "They have worked hard and deserve an opportunity to play in the postseason against the best teams in the country."

The Cougars are 1-2 all-time against Kansas State, 2-5 against Arkansas and have never played Grambling. This is the 16th NCAA postseason appearance for Washington State. Last season, the Cougars were 1-2 in the Norman, Okla., Regional. Washington State has made four College World Series appearances (1950, 1956, 1965, 1976) and its best finish is national runner-up in 1950.
