Cougar Trio Named All-Pac-10 Baseball

May 28, 2009

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State seniors Jared Prince and Matt Way along with redshirt-junior Jeremy Johnson have been named to the 2009 All-Pac-10 Baseball Team.

Way, a native of Sitka, Alaska, leads the Cougars with eight victories and will start on the mound for WSU when it takes on Arkansas, Friday in the opening game at the Norman Regional in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. He was an All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection last season.

The southpaw is 11th in the nation with 114 strikeouts and 34th in ERA at 2.49. His strikeout total is the most by a Cougars left-hander in one season and seven shy of Aaron's Sele school record.

An outfielder from Poulsbo, Wash., Prince is batting .350, including a team-leading .407 in Pac-10 games. It is second All-Pac-10 honor to go along with his 2006 selection.

Prince ranks sixth on the WSU career list with 159 RBI, seventh with 254 career hits and 10th with 153 runs. His 219 career games played rank fifth.

Johnson is a right-handed pitcher who has been the Cougars' most valuable arm out of the bullpen. He has picked up six wins and nine saves during WSU's 31-victory season.

The Centralia, Wash., native is tied for third on the Cougar single-season list in saves and he ranks in the Pac-10's top five for walks, hits and runs allowed.

Redshirt-sophomore right-handed pitcher Chad Arnold, senior utility player Alex Burg, freshman outfielder Derek Jones, senior catcher Greg Lagreid and sophomore shortstop Shea Vucinich received honorable mention.
