PULLMAN, Wash. - WSU right fielder/pitcher Jared Prince was named the top freshman in the country by Baseball America in their 2006 midseason report released last week.

Prince's .411 batting average and 1.32 ERA have helped the Cougars to a 22-12 record at the midseason mark. The freshman has surrendered only four earned runs in 27 and 1/3 innings of work, posting a 4-0 record in four starts with a 17-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The 6-foot-3 Poulsbo native has started 32 games, whether it is on the mound or patrolling right and center field, where he has tallied nine assists and committed no errors. At the plate, Prince has picked up a team leading 32 RBI's, while ripping 12 doubles, second only to All-Pac-10 candidate Jay Miller.
