Derek Jones Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington State senior outfielder Derek Jones has been named Pac-12 Conference Player of the Week for March 26-April 1, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced, Monday.

Jones led the Cougars to a 3-1 record batting .563 (9-for-16) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI. He slugged 1.063, recorded an on-base percentage of .650 and OPS of 1.713, stole two bases and scored seven runs.

He was 4-for-9 as the Cougars knocked off No. 6 UCLA 10-4 and Long Beach State 11-1, both on the road, March 26. In two games against USC (March 30-31) in Pullman, the Snohomish, Wash., native was 5-for-7, including two home runs to bring his career total to 39, one shy of the Washington State record.

It is the third weekly honor for Jones in his career and the 65th all-time for Washington State.

Jones and the Cougars face Gonzaga for the first of three timnes this season when the two teams tangle in Spokane, April 3 at 6 p.m.
