COUGARS OPEN PAC-12 PLAY
The Washington State (9-6) baseball team closes out its seven-game road trip with a three-game series at Arizona State (12-2-1), Friday, March 15-Sunday, March 17...meetings open Pac-12 play for both schools...games are schedule for 6:30, Friday and Saturday night and 12:30, Sunday afternoon...Cougars are 247-221 under Donnie Marbut, who is in his ninth season as the head coach of the WSU program and 10th overall in Pullman...Marbut is assisted by Gregg Swenson, Pat Waer, Michael Naughton and Scott Parrish.

SLUGGING COUGARS
Through March 12, Washington State leads the Pac-12 in batting average (.323), doubles (37), home runs (14), extra-base hits (55) and slugging percentage (.487).

 

 

WASHINGTON STATE'S ONE-TWO PUNCH
Last year, Derek Jones and Taylor Ard combined for 21 home runs, 58 extra-base hits and 95 RBI...both were MLB Draft picks...this season, redshirt-freshman Nick Tanielu and sophomore Yale Rosen (23 at bats as a freshman) are filling the shoes of Jones and Ard quite nicely...Tanielu (.429 batting average, 18 runs, 8 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 11 RBI) ranks in the top three among Pac-12 hitters in batting average, slugging percentage (.714), doubles and hits (27)...Rosen (.377, 10 Runs, 2 2B, 5 HR, 17 RBI) leads the Pac-12 in home runs, is fourth in slugging percentage (.656) and tied for fourth in RBI.

THE HITS KEEP COMING
Washington State is second in the Pac-12 with 172 hits...Cougars have recorded at least nine hits in 14 of 15 games this season, including reaching double-figures in seven-straight games.

NO ORDINARY JOE
Cougar sophomore southpaw Joe Pistorese has been stellar through four outings...pitched into the seventh inning three times...owns 1.160 WHIP...his 1.44 ERA is eighth in the Pac-12.

CLOSING THE DOOR
Junior J.D. Leckenby has converted 5-of-6 save opportunities in his first season as a closer...middle reliever as a freshman and starter as a sophomore.
