LOS ANGELES - Taylor Ard was 3-for-3 with a home run and scored five times as Washington State routed USC 13-1 in the final baseball game of the 2011 season for both teams.

The Cougars (26-28, 10-17 Pacific-10) collected 18 hits and took two of three games from the host Trojans (25-31, 13-14 Pac-10). James Wise (5-6) closed his Washington State career with a victory after giving up one run on five hits in six innings. Fellow senior Paris Shewey blanked USC for the final-three innings to earn his 10th save and move into a tie for the Pac-10 lead in that category.

Washington State took a 2-0 lead in the second against Logan Odom (5-6). Ard led off with a double and scored on a one-out single by Jason Monda. With two outs, Matt Argyropoulos, who was 3-for-5 with four RBI, doubled to plate Monda.

The Trojans scored their lone run in the second before the Cougars broke the game open with three runs in the fourth. Ard and Patrick Claussen each drew a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Monda. An infield single by Collin Slaybaugh and an error scored two runs to put Washington State on top 4-1. Argyropoulos capped the rally with a single to score Slaybaugh.

In the fifth, Ard led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out by Claussen, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Monda. The Cougars added three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.

Cody Bartlett opened the seventh with a double and Ard was intentionally walked with one out. A single by Claussen scored Bartlett. With two outs, Slaybaugh walked to load the bases and Argyropoulos singled to drive in two runs for a 9-1 lead.

In the eighth, Nate Blackham led off with a single, one of four hits for the Cougar freshman. Bartlett followed with a single and both runners advanced on a balk. Derek Jones knocked in both runners with a single and Ard belted his Pac-10 leading 10th home run of the season to finish the scoring.
