SEATTLE - Freshman Joe Pistorese gave up one run in 6 1/3 innings and Washington State closed out its regular season with a 3-2 victory at Washington in Pac-12 Conference baseball, Sunday.

Pistorese (4-3) held the Huskies (30-25, 13-17 Pac-12) to four hits, walked two and struck out two. With the victory, the Cougars (28-28, 12-18 Pac-12) avoided a three-game sweep by Washington.

"Joe was really good and he is definitely turning into a guy for us," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "He put together a terrific freshman season."

Washington State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against Jeff Brigham (0-2) when Kyle Johnson singled, stole second, took third on a Patrick Claussen single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Ard.

Washington tied the game in the bottom of the first and the scored remained 1-1 until the top of the sixth. Claussen opened the frame with a single and scored on a one-out double by Derek Jones to give the Cougars' a 2-1 lead.

In the seventh, Ian Sagdal reached on an error with two outs and scored on a double by Johnson to increase Washington State's advantage to 3-1.

Pistorese retired the final-eight men he faced before giving way to the bullpen. Kyle Swannack gave up back-to-back singles to put runners at first and second with one out in the seventh before recording two outs to preserve to the two-run lead.

Four Cougars pitched in the eighth inning when the Huskies cut their deficit to 3-2. Swannack was charged with the run and Kellen Camus recorded the final out in the inning with the tying and go-ahead runners aboard.

Anthony Drobnick worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save.
