PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State and Oregon State battled for eight innings before a rain storm forced suspension of the Pacific-10 Conference baseball game Friday night at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Play was originally halted at 8:12 p.m. with the OSU Beavers holding a 3-2 lead. One hour later the umpires officially suspended the game, which will resume at 5 p.m. Saturday with OSU batting in the top of the ninth inning. Saturday's scheduled game will follow at 6 p.m., or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game if it ends after 5:30 p.m.

Grant Richardson gave WSU the early lead Friday with his twelfth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the second inning. It was Richardson's first long ball since April 10 against Washington.

Oregon State then used a long ball to take the lead, 3-1 two innings later. Tony Calderon did the damage with a smash off the scoreboard in left center that scored Mike Hass and Cole Gillespie ahead of him. Hass opened the inning beating out a bunt and Gillespie walked before Shea McFeely struck out in front of Calderon. It was his third home run in the last two games.

The Cougars pushed across one run in the eighth when Jason Freeman singled to left with Collin Henderson scoring from third. On the play pinch hitter Justin Hart, who had singled, was thrown out trying to score from second. Tyler Graham's throw from left field was up the line and to the right, but catcher Paul Richie had time to move to the plate and tag Hart for the second out. Miller then grounded out to short, ending the Cougar threat.
