PULLMAN, Wash. - Trevor Williams scattered seven hits and shut out Washington State as No. 23 Arizona State won 2-0 in Pac-12 Conference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Saturday.

Williams (8-2) struck out four and did not walk a batter. He allowed one runner to reach third and another to reach second while throwing 76 of his 101 pitches for strikes.

The Cougars (21-18, 7-9 Pac-12) received a quality start as well. Tanner Chleborad (3-1) limited the Sun Devils (26-16, 11-9 Pac-12) to three hits in 7 1/3 innings, but suffered the loss after giving up a pair of unearned runs.

"Tanner was great today," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We just couldn't get anything going offensively. You have to protect your home field and we have not done that the last two days. We have to find a way to win a game tomorrow."

The game was 0-0 until the sixth when Arizona State pushed across a run on a walk, passed ball, ground out and single. In the eighth, the Sun Devils put runners at first and third with two outs. The runner at first attempted to steal second and the Cougars trapped the runner at third in a rundown. However, Washington State third baseman Patrick Claussen missed a tag attempt and the runner scampered home for a 2-0 lead.

GAME NOTES
Cougar freshman Ian Sagdal was 2-for-3...series concludes, Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
