PULLMAN, Wash. - Kellen Camus pitched four-shutout innings in a controlled to start and Washington State completed a doubleheader sweep of BYU with a 4-3 win in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Tuesday.

Camus (3-0) and J.D. Leckenby combined to hold BYU (20-18) without a run through eight innings as Washington State (17-19) extended its shutout streak to 26 innings, the longest by the Cougars in more than 15 seasons.

"Just like in game one, pitching was the key for us," Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We played good baseball for 17 out of 18 innings tonight and hopefully this gets us started on a big roll."

Washington State took a 1-0 lead in the first innings as the first-four batters reached against BYU starter Blake Torgerson (0-2). Collin Slaybaugh reached on a bunt single and a single by Patrick Claussen followed by a walk to Derek Jones loaded the bases. Slaybaugh scored on an RBI-single by Taylor Ard.

In the fourth, Matt Argyropoulos singled and stole second with one out. Tommy Richards knocked in Argyropoulos with a two-out double to put Washington State on top 2-0.

The hometown Cougars extended their lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth. Jones was hit by a pitch to open the frame and took second on a single by Ard. Both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Argyropoulos and Adam Nelubowich delivered a two-run single.

BYU scored three times in the ninth against Paris Shewey. BYU loaded the bases on a single, an error and a walk. An error and a single later it was 4-3 Washington State with BYU runners at first and third and no one out. Shewey preserved the victory by striking out the next three hitters.

Washington State opens a three-game Pacific-10 Conference series against Washington at home, Friday at 5:30 p.m.
