TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and the 10th-ranked Sun Devils defeated Washington State 3-1 in Pacific-10 Conference baseball, Friday.

Adam Conley (4-4) went the distance for the Cougars (14-15, 2-8 Pac-10), gave up seven hits, struck out seven and walked one. Only one of the three runs against the southpaw was earned. It was the second-straight complete game loss for the Olympia, Wash., native.

Washington State took a 1-0 lead in the third on a single by Jay Ponciano, a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Johnson and a run-scoring single by Cody Bartlett. It was the lone blemih for Brady Rogers (5-2) who went six and one-third innings for the victory.

In the fifth, Arizona State (23-9, 6-4 Pac-10) had a run in to tie the game and runners at second and third with two outs when a ground ball was misplayed by WSU second baseman Tommy Richards allowing two runs to score and give the Sun Devils a 3-1 lead.

The Cougars threatened in the seventh with the bases loaded and two outs. However, reliever Trevor Williams fanned WSU's leading RBI-man Taylor Ard to end the threat.

The series continues Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
