PULLMAN, Wash. - Pinch Hitter, Jeremy Farrar hit a three-run home run, giving WSU a five run lead in the seventh inning on its way to a 14-8 victory over No. 25 Washington in the rubber game of the three-game Pacific-10 baseball series.

The last time WSU won two series against Washington in one season was 1999, when the Cougars won 2-of-3 games in both Pullman and Seattle.

"Garrett Alwert gave us a great chance to get into the game," WSU Assistant Coach Don Marbut said. "The guys were dead set on winning the series. It was their goal to win a Pac-10 series on the road, plus there was extra incentive playing the Huskies. They were very focused on winning and they pulled together to do it."

The Cougars improve to 21-10 overall, and 3-3 in the Pac-10, Aaron Trolia (4-2), pitched up the win by recording the final out in the sixth inning in relief of starter Garrett Alwert. The Cougars took then took the lead for good with six runs in the top of the seventh inning for a 12-6 lead.

David Dowling (0-1) took the loss for the Huskies after coming into the game in the third inning, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing five runs, four earned, and striking out two batters while walking two.

The Cougars took command in the seventh by scoring six runs with five hits and a Husky error. Jay Miller drove home two runs with a single to score Justin Mclure and Kaeo Rubin. Farrar's home run, which would score the eventual game-winning run, drove in Grant Richardson and Jay Miller. Justin Hart drove home Zach McAngus for the final run of the inning with a single.

The Cougars took a three run lead to start the game when Grant Richardson hit a sacrifice fly to score Kaeo Rubin, who walked to lead off the game. Then Zach Kosturos homered to right field, driving home Jason Freeman, who layed down a bunt single.

The Huskies tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the first with a run-scoring walk and a double by Kyle Larsen to score Zach Clem and Aaron Hathaway.

WSU posted two more runs in the second with a double by Jason Freeman to right center that drove home Hart, who walked to lead off the inning, and Brandon Reddinger, who was hit by a pitch.

Both WSU and the Huskies scored single runs in the third inning to bring the score to 6-4. McAngus homered to left field to score for the Cougars. Washington's Larsen tripled to score Nick Batkoski.

The Huskies tied the game in the sixth inning with a two-out, two-run single to left center by Greg Isaacson, scoring Ben Johnson and John Otness.

With a 12-6 lead going into the eighth inning, WSU added two more runs to bring their scoring total to 14 with a two-run home run by Richardson that scored Rubin.

The Huskies added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to close out their scoring. Hathaway singled home Lillibridge in the eighth and Larson hit a solo home run in the ninth.

"Our pitching was outstanding this weekend," Marbut added. "They kept us in games. Coach Brust has done such a great job with his staff. 95% of the times they've allowed us to get the win."

Washington State resumes play Tuesday, at Bailey-Brayton field in a 5:00 p.m. game against Gonzaga, then will host the USC Trojans in a three-game series beginning Friday.
