SEATTLE, Wash. - Washington State's Aaron MacKenzie worked seven innings in a 9-1 victory against Washington Thursday at Husky Ballpark. The Cougars are now 2-2 in conference play.

MacKenzie (5-2), who held the Huskies (18-9-1) scoreless through the sixth inning, allowed one run on five hits. Also seeing mound time for WSU (20-9) was Wayne Daman Jr. Daman pitched two innings for the Cougars, allowing one hit and striking out four.

Washington starter, Tim Lincecum (3-1) was tagged with the loss. Lincecum pitched seven innings, giving up five runs on four hits and striking out 11.

The Cougars were held scoreless until the sixth inning when Grant Richardson hit into a fielder's choice to score Kaeo Rubin, who walked, for the first run of the game.

In the seventh, WSU added four more runs to take a 5-0 lead. The first run of the inning came on a three-run double by Jason Freeman to score Rubin, Justin McClure and Collin Henderson. Freeman scored the fourth run of the inning on a fielding error.

Richardson hit a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth to put the Cougars up 9-1. Jeff Miller, Freeman and Rubin scored on the long ball. The home run was Richardson's seventh time going yard in the past six games.

The lone Husky run came in the bottom of the seventh when Greg Isaacson singled to center to score Aaron Hathaway, who had led off the inning with a single.

The Cougars and Huskies will continue the three-game series Friday at Husky Ballpark at 6:30 p.m. Bryce Chamberlin is expected to get the start for WSU.
