SEATTLE - Shea Vucinich's sacrifice fly in top of the 12th inning lifted Washington State to a 6-5 win over Washington in game one of a Pacific-10 Conference doubleheader, Saturday at Husky Ballpark.

Adam Conley (2-1) pitched four and two-thirds innings of shutout relief to earn the victory for the Cougars (15-8, 1-1 Pac-10). Ben Guidos (0-4), the fourth of five Washington (13-11, 1-1 Pac-10) pitchers, took the loss.

"We left way too many men on base, but I am so proud of the way our guys stuck with it and grinded out a victory," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "There are no easy games in the Pac-10 and we found a way to win."

Trailing 1-0 after three innings, WSU took the lead with a three-run fourth. Patrick Claussen collected a two-run single and J.K. Dykes executed a safety squeeze bunt to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.

Washington answered with a run in its half of the fourth and both teams pushed across a run in the fifth. Michael Weber's RBI-single in the seventh gave the Cougars a 5-3 lead. The Huskies picked up a run in the seventh and tied the game with a tally in the eighth.

Both teams had opportunities in extra innings until the 12th when the Cougars loaded the bases on a hit by pitch, Husky error and infield single that set the stage for Vucinich's go-ahead sacrifice fly.

The teams are scheduled to play game two of the doubleheader and conclude their three-game series, Saturday evening.
