Despite a three hit performance by senior Jeremy Farrar, the Washington State baseball team lost 11-3 in the rubber game of its first Pacific-10 conference series against Arizona Sunday, at Kindall Field.

Freshman starting pitcher, Wayne Daman Jr. (2-2), took the loss for the Cougars (15-8) after giving up four runs, of which three were earned, and five hits in 2.2 innings.

Kevin Guyette (4-3) earned the win for the Wildcats (13-11-1) after pitching six innings while allowing three runs, two earned and 10 hits.

The Cougars posted their first run of the game in the first inning when Farrar hit a single to bring home Jason Freeman who had reached base on a single to left field.

Arizona answered the Cougars run by scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Jason Donald led off the inning with a single up the middle and was advanced to second on an error. Donald then scored on a balk.

WSU regained the lead in the second when Brandon Reddinger reached on an infield single. He then scored on a single by Kaeo Rubin.

Richard Mercado led off the second inning for the Wildcats by drawing a walk and then advanced to second on a single up the left side by Derek Decater. Mercado scored on a sacrifice fly by Donald. Decater scored on a double by Bill Rhinehart to give Arizona a 3-2 lead.

The Cougars scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning when Collin Henderson, who reached on a single, scored off of a fielding error.

Arizona added a run in the third when Jordan Brown, who tripled to lead off the inning, scored on a ground out by Trevor Crowe.

The Wildcats added a pair of runs in the fourth when Donald and Rhinehart scored on a double to right field by Brown.

Arizona posted five more runs in the seventh when Pat Reilly and Mercado both singled and advanced on a balk to put runners on second and third. Decater was then intentionally walked to load the bases. Reilly scored on a sacrifice fly. Donald reloaded the bases for the Wildcats with an infield single. Moises Duran then hit a two-run double down the left field line to bring home Mercado and Decater. Donald and Duran then scored the final two runs on a single by Brown.

The Cougars will resume play Tuesday March 30 against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at Avista Stadium in Spokane. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
