PULLMAN, Wash. - Eleven Cougars collected a hit and Washington State routed Cal State Bakersfield 14-3 in the opener of a four-game nonconference baseball series at Bailey-Brayton Field, Friday.

Matt Argyropoulos led a 16-hit attack with a 3-for-3 night, including a triple, three RBI and three runs. Brett Jacobs added three hits, including a double, for Washington State (13-5).

The Cougars scored four times in the first inning with the big hit a two-out, two-run single off the bat of Jay Ponciano. Argyropoulos singled in a run in the second to give WSU a 5-0 lead.

The series continues with a doubleheader, Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
