LOS ANGELES - Ty Jackson and Adam Nelubowich each homered in Washington State's 10-4 victory over No. 6 UCLA, Monday.

The victory for the Cougars (11-10, 2-4 Pac-12) broke a four-game losing streak and avoided a series sweep at the hands of the Bruins (17-5, 4-2 Pac-12).

"Our bats gave us an early lead and took some pressure off our pitching," Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "(Kyle) Swannack gave us a good start and (Scott) Simon was great out of the pen."

The Cougars scored nine times over the first-two innings against UCLA starter Grant Watson (5-1). With one out in the top of the first, Tommy Richards and Taylor Ard singled with one out. After Derek Jones flied out, Nelubowich drove in Richards with a single. Jackson followed with a three-run blast over the center field wall to give Washington State a 4-0 lead.

In the second, P.J. Jones led off with a walk and moved to second on a bunt single by Ian Sagdal. Jason Monda doubled to score Jones and Sagdal came home on a ground out by Richards. After Ard popped out, Derek Jones singled to plate Monda. Nelubowich then ended Watson's afternoon with a two-run blast to right field.

UCLA chipped away against Cougar starter Kyle Swannack (2-2) with two runs in the third and one in the fourth. The Bruins had runners at first and second in the fifth, but Swannack retired Jeff Gelalich, the Pac-12's second-leading hitter, on a fly out to end the threat.

Washington State scored its final run in the eighth on a leadoff double by Sagdal and a two-out double by Ard. UCLA scored a run in the bottom of the frame against reliever Scott Simon. It was the only run Simon gave up in four innings as the redshirt-freshman picked up his second save.
