PULLMAN, Wash. - Playing at home for the first time in over two weeks, Washington State defeated Gonzaga 7-5 in nonconference baseball, Tuesday at Bailey-Brayton Field.

Brett Jacobs, Brady Steiger, Matt Argyropoulos and Cody Bartlett each collected two hits for the Cougars (12-5). Connor Lambert (1-0), Seth Harvey and Adam Conley blanked the Bulldogs (8-12) for two innings each with Conley earning his fourth save.

"Those three guys out of our bullpen were tremendous for us tonight," WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We are still scuffling a bit offensively, but they picked us up."

Gonzaga scored three runs in the first inning with the big blow a two-run home run by Andy Hunter. WSU rallied for four runs in the second to take a 4-3 lead. Argyropoulos doubled in two runs and scored the equalizer on a wild pitch. Jacobs capped the uprising with a run-scoring single.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the fourth on three walks and a two-run single by Chris Sturdivant. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Derek Jones.

In the fifth, Jay Ponciano drove in the go-ahead run with a ground out and Bartlett doubled in an insurance run.

Lambert, who relieved Paris Shewey with the bases loaded and no outs in the fourth, gave up two hits and struck out one during his stint. Harvey and Conley combined to fan five over the final-four innings.

The Cougars open a four-game series at home against Cal State Bakersfield, Friday at 5:30 p.m.
