Cougar Baseball Earns Road Win Against Texas A&M
March 13, 2010
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Washington State scored five times in the second inning and the No. 25 Cougars defeated No. 29 Texas A&M 7-5 at Olsen Field, Saturday. With the victory, WSU (10-2) evened the three-game series and snapped a nine-game Texas A&M (12-3) winning streak. Spencer Jackson (3-0) worked five-plus innings to earn the victory while Ross Stripling (3-1) pitched five-plus innings in defeat. Adam Conley recorded the final six outs for the Cougars to pick up his third save. In the top of the second, Matt Argyropoulos singled and Michael Weber walked to put runners at first and second with no one out. Matt Fanelli dropped down a sacrifice bunt that Stripling fielded and threw away trying to cut down the lead runner. Argyropoulos scored, Weber moved to third and Fanelli took second on the play. Brett Jacobs followed with a RBI-ground out and Shea Vucinich singled to put runners at the corners. Cody Bartlett then launched a three-run home run to right field and the Cougars were on top 5-0. Garry Kuykendall added a run-scoring single in the fourth and WSU picked up a run on a fielder's choice ground ball by Jacobs in the sixth. Jackson cruised through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. A pair of singles preceded a three-run home run by Caleb Shofner and the Aggies closed within 7-3. A bunt single ended Jackson's outing and reliever Michael Ratigan yielded a RBI-single to both Brandon Wood and Andrew Collazo. Texas A&M put two runners aboard in each of the final three innings, but failed to score off WSU relievers Seth Harvey and Conley. The latter induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Kevin Gonzalez. The teams conclude their three-game series with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Central/11:05 a.m. Pacific, Sunday. WSU NOTES
