PULLMAN, Wash. - Dallas Baptist scored eight runs in the first inning and defeated Washington State 13-4 in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Monday.

All eight runs were charged to freshman starter Taylor Williams (0-1) who did not record an out in his first-collegiate start.

"We did not compete at a very high level and when don't do that you are going to get beat by a good team like Dallas Baptist," Washington State Head Coach Donnie Marbut said.

Washington State (5-4) cut its deficit to 8-3 with a single run in each of the first three innings. Brett Jacobs led off the home half of the first with his first-collegiate home run.

In the second, Kyle Johnson walked with two outs, Jacobs was hit by a pitch and Monda collected an RBI-single. Matt Argyropoulos homered in the third for Washington State's third run of the game.

The Cougars had another scoring opportunity in the fourth, but Dallas Baptist (8-4) starter Brandon Williamson (2-0) struck out Derek Jones with the bases loaded to end the threat.

The Patriots added four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth while the Cougars' final tally came in the fifth on a double by Argyropoulos and back-to-back singles by Cody Bartlett and Tommy Richards.

The two-game series concludes Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The radio broadcast of the game will be on KQQQ NewTalk 1150 AM.
