PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State used a 17-hit attack during an 8-2 blowout of Cal State Northridge in nonconference baseball at Bailey-Brayton Field, Friday night.

With the victory, the Cougars (7-2) won their seventh-straight games after staring 0-2. Washington State also improved to 6-0 at home, its best start in Pullman since winning its first-seven to begin the 1989 campaign.

"Our offense showed up tonight," Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. "We were sloppy on defense and our pitching wasn't great, but we did enough to win."

Washington State scored in each of the first-three innings to take a 4-0 lead. Collin Slaybaugh and Nick Tanielu singled with one out in the bottom of the first to put runners at the corners. Jason Monda followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

Trace Tam Sing extended the lead with a RBI-single in the second. In the third, Yale Rosen drilled a ball off the centerfield wall for an inside-the-park home run with two outs. Adam Nelubowich doubled and came home on a run-scoring single by Brett Jacobs to put the Cougars on top 4-0.

Leading 4-1 in the seventh, Washington State tacked on three runs. A throwing error allowed two runs to score and Jacobs collected a RBI-double for a 7-1 advantage. Both teams added a run in the eighth with the Cougar tally coming on a RBI-single by Rosen.

The series continues, Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
