Cougars drop second straight to Long Beach State 11-0

LONG BEACH, Calif. - - For the second consecutive day Washington State could not handle the pitching depth of host Long Beach State, falling 11-0 Saturday at Blair Field.

Aaron MacKenzie (0-1) started on the mound for the Cougars, pitching 5 1/3 innings and surrendering six runs on six hits in the losing effort. Jared Weaver (2-1) pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings to receive the win.

At the plate, the Cougars (0-5) were led by Derek Bruce's 2-for-4 day. Long Beach State (5-3) had four players with multi-hit games, led by Brad Davis' 3-for-4 performance.

The game was close for much of the early going. The 49ers held just a 3-0 lead after five innings, before erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and added another run in the bottom of the seventh.

The two teams complete the three-game series tomorrow at noon at Blair Field.
