This Friday the Cougs will be heading over to Seattle to get our cross country season officially started in the Sundodger Invitational. This weekend we will have a pretty young team running. The older women will be sitting out so they can continue to put in a solid block of training before the Griak Invite, in Minnesota, at the end of the month. More importantly this will give the younger women a great opportunity to step up and "spread their wings" so to speak. Any of us will tell you that transitioning from high school to college racing is one that can be pretty difficult.
Sundodger is a great place to have your first "official" collegiate meet for a few reasons. First, the course is pretty fast- some long down hills and sloping up hills makes it one to get a good time on. More importantly, the quality of competition is pretty good, but it's not as intense as Pre-Nationals (the start of which our coach has said reminds him of the battle scene in Braveheart.) Going to this meet will give our freshmen and sophomores a great chance to get a manageable race in before we start the big meets. Being able to go to a smaller race with great competition will give us the confidence essential to our success.
The WSU women are looking toward having their most successful season yet and this weekend will be the perfect starting point to see where we stand not just individually but as a team.
Go Cougs!
