Ten Cougars Named to Pac-12 All-Academic XC Teams

Pac-12 XC All-Academic Teams Get Acrobat Reader

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Seven men and three women from Washington State University were named to the 2012 Pac-12 Conference Cross Country All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Thursday.

Three WSU men were named to the second team including Drew Jordan (junior, Medford, Ore.) a social sciences major with a 3.34 GPA, Andrew Kimpel (senior, Spokane) a management information systems major with a 3.35 GPA, and Forrest Shaffer (sophomore, Petaluma, Calif.) an undeclared major with a 3.60 GPA. Cougar men named to the honorable mention team are Lee George (sophomore, Ferndale, Wash.) a history major with a 3.08 GPA, Andrew Gonzales (junior, Kennewick, Wash.) a psychology major with a 3.17 GPA, Richard Shroy (junior, Carson City, Nev.) a movement studies major with a 3.09 GPA, and Todd Wakefield (sophomore, Kearns, Australia) a movement studies major with a 3.29 GPA. Wakefield will compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 17.

Ruby Roberts (junior, Kingston, Wash.) was a women's first team selection. Roberts is a Fine Arts major with a 3.98 GPA. Two Cougar women named to the honorable mention team included Marisa Stoick (redshirt freshman, Kent, Wash.) a basic medical science major with a 3.21 GPA, and Courtney Zalud (redshirt junior, Colbert, Wash.) a social sciences major with a 3.24 GPA.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 overall grade-point average or higher, and be either a starter or significant contributor. A total of 74 women and 47 men were selected for the 2012 Pac-12 Cross Country All-Academic teams.
