WAKEFIELD HEADED TO NCAA CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS Todd Wakefield, a sophomore from Kearns, Australia, will represent the Washington State University men's cross country team at the 75th Annual NCAA Men's DI Cross Country Championships Sat., Nov. 17, at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky...Wakefield's 14th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Championships Nov. 10 in Seattle earned him one of the 38 at-large individual invitations to the national meet...the middle distance specialist ran the 10k in a time of 30:01...this is Wakefield's second trip to the NCAA Championships...at the 2011 national meet in Terre Haute, Ind., Wakefield was the final scorer at 151st for the Cougar men's team that finished 21st as a team...to hear Wakefield's and Cougar Coach Tim Riley's thoughts on the NCAA Championships, go to wsucougars.com Video...a live webcast will be available at ncaa.com starting at 9 a.m. PT Sat., Nov. 17.
ABOUT THE NCAA DI CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
33rd Annual Women's Championships - Noon ET (9 a.m. PT)
75th Annual Men's Championships - approx. 1:15 p.m. ET (10:15 a.m. PT)
The 562-acre E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park (est. 1970) is located on the outskirts of Louisville...rolling hills that were once farmland now hosts an Olympic-sized pool, gymnasium, community center, soccer and softball fields, tennis courts, fitness and nature trails, archery range, BMX track, community gardens, astronomy center, dog park and a cross country course.
This is the first time in NCAA history that the Division I Cross Country Championships will take place in the state of Kentucky.
First time since World War II the DI championships take place on a Saturday instead of a Monday...this is the earliest championships meet in DI history (new championships calendar and earlier Thanksgiving).
