DR. Tim Riley NAMED COUGAR CROSS COUNTRY COACH
Dr. Tim Riley was hired by Washington State University to coach the men's and women's cross country teams Aug. 28, 2012, after serving as a volunteer assistant coach with the Cougars' program for the past three years. "We are very excited with the addition of Dr. Tim Riley as our distance/cross country coach," WSU Head Coach Rick Sloan said. "He carried a lot of responibility during the past three years of assisting Pete Julian. We look forward to a seamless transition with our philosophy and training methods that took us to the 21st place finish at the NCAA last year and moving forward in the future." Riley, a 31-year old native of Corvallis, Ore., was an outstanding cross country and track and field athlete at Eastern Oregon University where he earned All-America honors in 2004. He was a two-time NAIA indoor track and field national qualifier and a three-time NAIA outdoor track and field national qualifier, winning the 2004 10,000m national championship. While at EOU, Riley also went to four NAIA cross country national championships and was a member of the first place NAIA cross country national championship academic team in 2001. Riley was an assistant coach of track and field/cross country at the College of Idaho from 2004 to 2006. Riley came to WSU in 2006 for graduat studies and began volunteering with the Cougar cross country program in 2008. He recieved his PhD in neuroscience from the department of veterinary and comparative anatomy, pharmacology and physiology (VCAPP) in May 2012. Riley replaces Pete Julian who resigned Aug. 27 to take a position with the Nike Oregon Project in Portland, Ore.

COUGAR CROSS COUNTRY OPENS SEASON AT MEAD MEET
The Washington State University men's and women's cross country teams start the season competing against Idaho, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, and Whitworth at Mead High School, north of Spokane, this Saturday, Sept. 1...women's race of 4,200m begins at 10 a.m. and the men's 6,200m race follows at 10:30 a.m....course is set up by Gonzaga and results are compiled by Eastern Washington...team and individual results will be available at wsucougars.com, when available post-race.

WSU MEN RANKED NO. 26 IN USTFCCCA NATIONAL PRESEASON POLL
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) releases regional and national rankings for cross country based on the predicted finish in the NCAA Regional and National Championships...WSU's men's team is ranked 26th in the Aug. 28, 2012 preseason national poll and sixth in the USTFCCCA preseason regional poll...the Cougar men finished 21st at the 2011 NCAA Championships and fourth at the NCAA West Regional.
