Men's Cross Country To Compete at NCAA Championships

The WSU men's cross country team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Championships Monday.

WSU CAREER. SOPHOMORE (2010-11): Cross Country - Runner-up at Anderson Invite (Spokane Valley) 8k, running unattached, in time of 25:19.58...fell 600 meters after start of White Race 8k at Pre-Nationals and injured ankle, DNF...32nd overall and second Cougar (24:21.11) at Pac-10 Championships (10/30/10, Seattle)...64th overall, second on team in 10k at NCAA West Regional (11/13/10, Springfield, Ore.) in time of (31:16.87)...named to Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team...

FRESHMAN (2009-10): Cross Country - Scored in four races and ran unattached in another...first place finish while running unattached at the Clash of the Inland Northwest...placed 19th (second on team) at the Roy Griak Invitational...finished 80th (fifth on team) at the ISU Pre-Nationals...finished 47th (fourth on team) at Pac-10 Championships...finished 68th at the NCAA West Regionals (sixth on team)...Indoor - Redshirt season...Outdoor - Redshirt season...finished fourth in the USA Cross Country Championships in Spokane...placed 54th in men's junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, March 28, in Bydgoszcz, Poland...fourth member of the USA Junior Cross Country team to cross the finish line, running the 8000m course in a time of 24:37.

REDSHIRT FRESHMAN: Indoor - Ran a PR time in mile of 4:06.95i at Washington Invite (1/29/11, Seattle)...next weekend at Husky Classic clocked in with 3000m PR time of 8:17.19i (2/12/11, Seattle)...finished 30th in 3k at Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships (8:33.87i)...Outdoor - Ran a 1500m time of 3:56.28 atWSU-UW Dual meet...Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention.

HIGH SCHOOL. Earned six varsity letters at North Central High...three in cross country for coach Jon Knight, and three in track and field for coach Kelly Walters...named team captain of cross country team senior season, and junior and senior years for track and field...leader of 2006, 2007, and 2008 state 3A champion cross country teams...at state xtry meet finished fifth as sophomore and was runner-up as junior and senior...2006 Footlocker West sophomore champion...lead team to title at 2007 Nike Regional meet with second-place finish...before senior year was named The Harrier Magazine 2008 preseason All-American...leader of NCHS cross country team that won the 2008 Nike national championship as he finished 10th...won 2008 BorderClash cross country meet...track team won 2008 state 3A championship with Kimpel second in 3200m and fifth in 1600m...in 2009 won 3200m at state 3A meet in time of 9:08.39...posted a personal record of 4:14.20 in 1600m at 3A regional meet in 2009...tabbed 2008-09 Washington Gatorade Male Runner of the Year.
