Five Cougars to Compete at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games
8/6/2008 ~ Washington State will have one current and four former student-athletes competing at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 8-24. There are three Washington State alumni who will be competing for the USA in track and field. All their track and field competitions (known as Athletics) will take place in the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest Stadium which seats 91,000 spectators and is the site of the Opening Ceremonies Aug. 8.

Nine Washington State University track and field student-athletes and the women's track and field team received national recognition for academic excellence among NCAA Division I institutions from the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Incoming Washington State University freshman Shawn Swartz won men's high jump at the Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships last weekend at the Jane & Gerry Swan Track at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.

Washington State freshman Jeshua Anderson wrapped up his competitive running season with a second gold medal before 12,000 spectators at the 12th Annual International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, Sunday.
