Captains' Corner

May 7, 2008

Hey Cougs,

Well this weekend was quite the event!!! WE finally beat those Huskies and man did it feel good. Our team, men and women, preformed great this weekend. Our women's team destroyed the Huskies by some insane amount and our men team won by twenty. The women dominated in just about every event!!

Last week I challenged our men's team to compete against the Huskies this year, something we haven't been able to do as a team for the last three years. Without any hitches, our men's team did, everyone from Dominic’s great 3000 to our all-purpose men Phil and Rickey to Trent almost getting 7-4 1/2 but still getting a PR at 7-2 1/2 to Luke manning up and running a 1:51 eight to Jeshusa holding it down in the sprints. I know it seems like I am rambling but everyone did great. It was probably one of the best moments I have had in my four-year career here at WSU; watching my team perform at the level I knew they could. It meant a lot to me and I am extremely proud of every one of them.

My day started a little rocky. I felt a little off and started with a 225 throw which I was not happy about. I had trouble finding my timing. I had a rough week at practice, my body was a little banged up but I knew that it only takes one and on my fourth throw I PR'd with a 237-4 throw. I was happy but not yet satisfied. I know there is a really big throw in me and I feel I am very close, so hopefully in two weeks at Pac-10s I can unleash that beast.

The one moment that I think everyone loved was Coach Sloan getting a Gatorade container of water dumped on him by Rickey and me at the start of our team meeting after the meet. Haha. It was sweet. I will talk to ya guys again in two weeks after Pac's.

Peace, your Cap
