Women's Track & Field Team Tabbed for National Academic Honors
July 30, 2012
NEW ORLEANS -- The 2012 Washington State University women's track and field team is one of the 171 best scholastic women's teams in NCAA Division I according to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). With a grade point average of 3.05, this is the eighth time the Cougar women's track and field team has been nationally honored with a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award. To be considered for the honor, a team must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship Meet and have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA. Seven women's teams from the Pac-12 Conference were selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams with Stanford being named the Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Team of the Year for 2012. Earlier this month, two WSU women student-athletes were honored individually by the USTFCCCA for academic excellence: steeplechaser Ruby Roberts (sophomore, Kingston, Wash.) and javelin thrower Celena Ward (freshman, Spokane). For the complete list of teams, go to www.ustfccca.org.
