TOLUCA, Mexico -- Washington State junior Matt Lamb won the men's discus throw at the 2008 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Under 23 Track and Field Championships, July 18, at Toluca, Mexico.
Lamb, from Emmett, Idaho, had the winning throw of 192-feet, 7 inches (58.70m), well below his personal-record discus distance of 204-7 (62.36m), throw July 3 at the USA Olympic Trials qualifying round at Eugene.
A two-time NCAA All-American, Lamb missed the 2008 collegiate outdoor season recuperating from back spasms that began at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships. After training late in the spring, he threw a discus PR of 204-0 (62.18m) at the Gary Shaw Big Throwers Meet May 21-22, at Salinas, Calif., to qualify for the Olympic Trials.
The NACAC is the continental confederation governing body of athletics for national governing bodies and multi-national federations within North America, Central America and the Caribbean. NACAC is one of six area associations of the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).
This is the second gold medal won by a current Cougar track and field athlete in international competition this summer. Freshman Jeshua Anderson won the men's 400m hurdles at the IAAF World Juniors Championships earlier in the month in Poland.
