TRACK & FIELD STEPS UP THE COMPETITION AT MPSF CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Washington State men's and women's track and field teams travel to Seattle for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, Fri. and Sat., Feb. 22 & 23, at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the Washington campus...dozen men's teams competing include Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Long Beach State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA, Washington and WSU...15 women's teams including Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Hawai'i, Long Beach State, Oregon, Stanford, UC Irvine, UCLA, Utah, Washington and WSU...Meet schedule is on Page 5 of this release...Live results and Video Streaming will be available at www.gohuskies.com...complete results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, at the completion of each day's events.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 40th season with the Cougar track program; 19th year as a head coach, 18th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...Sloan (decathlon/heptathlon) is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell (throws) and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald (hurdles/relays), Ellannee Richardson (sprints/relays), Matt McGee (jumps) and cross country coach Tim Riley (distance)...volunteers include Jeshua Anderson, Chanel James and Courtney Simmons.

NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA abondoned the qualifying standards for the 2013 indoor competition...national descending order lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org)...race marks are converted to accommodate for track sizes and surfaces...best marks for the Cougars for the 2013 indoor season can be found at www.wsucougars.com.

WSU men in the TFRRS national top 50 list this week include (#=converted times, @=at altitude):
Todd Wakefield, 3000m - 8:04.27 (40th)
Andrew Kimpel, 5000m - 14:09.06 (39th)
Stephan Scott-Ellis, long jump - 7.60m/24-11 1/4 (14th)
Stephan Scott-Ellis, triple jump - 15.86m/52-0 1/2 (10th)
Spencer Wordell, heptathlon - 5,167 points (46th)
WSU women in the TFRRS national top 50 list this week include:
Shawna Fermin, 400m - 54.38@ (40th)

SCOTT-ELLIS RETURNING MPSF CHAMPION
Senior Stephan Scott-Ellis (Tacoma) won the 2012 MPSF long jump with PR of 7.75m/25-5 1/4i and was runner-up in triple jump at 15.89m/52-1 3/4i (2/28/12, Seattle...went on to place seventh in triple and 13th in long jumps at NCAA.

BERNARD LAGAT BREAKS AMERICAN 2-MILE RECORD AT MILLROSE GAMES
WSU Athletic Hall of Fame member Bernard Lagat won 2-mile race with an American record time of 8:09.49 Feb. 16, at the 106th Millrose Games (NYC Armory)...Lagat, age 38, worked hard to surpass Galen Rupps' record time of 8:09.72...Lagat was named Performer of the Meet...he owns a record eight Millrose Wanamaker Mile titles...Lagat, a three-time Olympian, now has all the American indoor records from 1500m through 5000m.
