COUGARS AIMING FOR MARKS TO LOVE FEB. 14 IN SEATTLE: Washington State University's indoor track and field teams are set to travel across the state to compete in the Husky Classic Meet at the Dempsey Indoor facility on the University of Washington campus...running events begin at 8 a.m. and field events begin at 11 a.m...updated results will be posted online throughout the day on www.gohuskies.com...complete results will be posted on the official WSU website after the meet at www.wsucougars.com. ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 36th season with the Cougar track program; 15th year as a head coach, 14th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Mark Macdonald, Ellannee Richardson and Matt McGee...former decathlete Rickey Moody joins Megan Johnson and Kyle Chandler. MacARTHUR NAMED wsucougars.com MALE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Senior Philip MacArthur (Selkirk, Wash.) threw the 35-pound weight a two-foot PR and NCAA Provisional Qualifying distance of 64-1 3/4 (19.55m) Friday night at the Vandal Indoor...he is the first WSU male student-athlete to be selected in the new program that will honor current Cougars weekly achievements...MacArthur's throw is the sixth-best in school history. COUGAR HIGHLIGHTS FROM VANDAL INDOOR & RUNNERS SOUL OPEN MEETS: Friday night at the Vandal Indoor, sophomore Marlon Murray (Des Moines, Wash.) won both the men's 60m dash and the 200m dash with PR times of 6.82 and 21.48 seconds, respectively...senior Lorraine King (Fontana, Calif.) won both the women's 400m dash, in a PR time of 55.60, and the 60m hurdles, with a PR time of 8.53...sophomore Jeshua Anderson (Woodland Hills, Calif.) won the men's 400m dash (47.43)...Moreno Zapata (senior, Lakewood, Wash.) won the men's triple jump (48-2 /14.68m) and Sarah Burns (senior, Tacoma) won the women's triple jump with a season-best 39-10 1/2 (12.15m)...Saturday at the Runners Soul Open, Anderson won the 400m (48.97) and Trevor Habberstad won the 60m hurdles (8.42). NATIONAL POLLS: The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) 2009 Week #3 poll lists Arkansas as the top men's team and Texas A&M as the top women's team in a prediction of team finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships...Cougar men are 35th...individual events where WSU men are nationally listed are: Trent Arrivey, high jump (5th), Robert Williams, 60m hurdles (16th), Ryan Deese, high jump (30th), Philip MacArthur (30th), Jeshua Anderson, 400m dash (9th), and the men's 4x400m relay of Leavitt, Anderson, Follett, Woods (15th)....Kendall Mays, pole vault, is the sole WSU woman nationally ranked (43rd). ANDERSON MAKES TRACKSHARK TOP 12 SPRINTERS/HURDLERS TO WATCH IN 2009 LIST: WSU sophomore Jeshua Anderson was named to the TrackShark.com Top 12 Sprinters/Hurdlers to watch in 2009...Anderson won the men's 400m hurdles at the Pac-10 Conference, NCAA, USA Junior and World Junior Championship meets in 2008. COUGARS AND THE MPSF INDOOR HISTORY: Because the Pacific-10 Conference does not sponsor indoor track and field competition, Washington State University competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for an indoor track conference title, joining teams from the Pac-10, Mountain West, Western Athletic, West Coast and Big West Conferences...at the 2008 MPSF Indoor Championships, the women's team finish order was: 1. Arizona State (154.5), 2. Stanford (141), 3. Oregon (72), 4. California (65.5), 5. Washington (61.5), 6. Arizona (57.5), 7. Washington State (49), 8. Cal St. Northridge (38.5), 9.
