PULLMAN, Wash. -- While Washington State hosted the first weekend of the Pac-10 Track & Field Championships at Mooberry Track, several Cougar athletes were competing at other venues.

Friday night at the Cardinal Qualifier Meet (Stanford, Calif.), WSU distance specialists Anna Blue and Jon Welsh were the Cougar reps. Blue finished second in the women's 5000m race in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 16 minutes, 45.28 seconds, just off her previous best time of 16:27.76. Welsh finished second in the men's 3000m steeplechase in 8:58.48, slower than his lifetime-best of 8:54.7h.

At the Modesto Relays at Modesto, Calif., Tamara Gulley improved her 100m hurdles time to 13.99 seconds. In the men's 100m dash, Anthony Buchanan ran 10.32, Anson Henry clocked in at 10.41, and Bennie Chatman finished in 10.58. Henry finished the 200m dash in 21.62 and Chatman timed in at 21.88. Buchanan did not run the 200m due to tightened hamstrings.

Rick Collins cleared a lifetime-best of 16-10 3/4 (5.15m) in the pole vault at the Moscow McDonald's Open meet at the University of Idaho. The Vandals did not provide results from the Saturday meet.

Next weekend the Cougar men and women will be competing in the Pac-10 Conference Championships, May 18-19, at Mooberry Track, Pullman.
