TUCSON, Ariz. -- Washington State University's Julie Pickler scored 4,938 points for sixth place in the heptathlon while David Turpin scored 6,817 points for eighth place in the decathlon at the Pacific-10 Conference Combined Track & Field Events Championships, at Roy P. Drachman Stadium at the University of Arizona.

ASU's Jackie Johnson won the women's heptathlon with an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 5,603 points. Oregon's Tommy Skipper won the decathlon with an NCAA AQ total of 7,589 points. Nine competitors completed each event in this first weekend of competition at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships.

Saturday, Pickler, a redshirt freshman from Sasche, Texas, long jumped 5.45m/17-feet, 10 3/4 inches, threw the javelin 36.45m/119-7, and ran the 800m in a time of 2-minutes, 50.36 seconds. She has already scored 5,135 points, an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, at the Mt. SAC heptathlon last month. Pickler's sixth place finish gave the Cougar women three team points.

Turpin, a senior from Oakhurst, Calif., just missed his lifetime best score by nine points Saturday. Turpin ran the 110m hurdles in a time of 16.40, threw the discus 38.91m/127-8, pole vaulted a PR of 4.50m/14-9, threw the javelin 45.26m/148-6, and ran the 1500m in a time of 4:48.97. His eighth place finish gives the Cougar men one point in the team standings.

The Pacific-10 Track & Field Championships continue next weekend, May 14-15, at Tucson.
