TUCSON, Ariz. -- Washington State University's Julie Pickler scored 3,193 points for third place in the heptathlon while David Turpin tallied 3,583 points for seventh place in the decathlon during the first evening of the Pacific-10 Conference Combined Track & Field Events Championships being held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium at the University of Arizona.

ASU's Jackie Johnson holds the first day heptathlon lead with 3,421 points and her Sun Devils teammate Joshua Kinnaman is the decathlon leader with 3,995 points. There are nine competitors in each the heptathlon and decathlon events being contested during this first weekend of competition at the Pac-10 Track and Field Championships.

Pickler, a redshirt freshman from Sasche, Texas, ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.31 seconds, high jumped 5-feet, 5 3/4 inches (1.67m), threw the shot put 34-2 3/4 (10.43m), and ran the 200m dash in 25.05.

Turpin, a senior from Oakhurst, Calif., ran the 100m dash in a time of 11.25 seconds, long jumped 21-11 3/4 (6.70m), threw the shot put 36-2 (11.02m), high jumped 6-4 1/4 (1.94m), and ran the 400m dash in a time of 51.69.

The Pac-10 heptathlon competition concludes Saturday with the women competing in the 1ong jump, javelin, and the 800m run. The decathlon concludes with the men competing in the 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and the 1500m run.
