FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Washington State's Whitney Evans finished fourth in the high jump during the first day's competition at the NCAA Div. I Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the University of Arkansas campus.

Evans, a redshirt senior from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, earned her third indoor and seventh overall All-America certificate with her fourth-place finish in the women's high jump Friday. Evans cleared a personal-record height of 6-feet, 3/4 inch (1.85m) on her first attempt. She missed all three attempts at 6-1 1/2 (1.87m).

Nevena Lendel, a senior from Southern Methodist, won the women's high jump by clearing a height of 6-2 1/4 (1.89m).

"I feel really good about reaching my PR on my first attempt," Evans said. "I would have liked to finish higher (in the event standings) but there's nothing you can do when other people have a good day. I'm really happy about the PR. I'm moving in the right direction."

Evans' finish gives the Cougar women's team five points in the team standings.

Last year at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Evans finished second (6-0). She was also the runner-up last spring at the Outdoor Championships (5-10 1/2).

Saturday national meet action includes Cougar junior Kurtiss Dilley in the men's high jump and the WSU women's 4x400m relay.
