MOSCOW, Idaho -- Washington State's track and field athletes improved 11 personal-best marks Saturday at the McDonald's Open Indoor Meet at the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome.

Cougar women finished first through fourth in the 200m dash with Nicole Hatcher (sophomore, Kennewick, Wash.) the winner in a PR time of 24.84 seconds. Coach Ellannee Richardson was second while Nicole McClendon (freshman, Granada Hills, Calif.) finished third with a PR of 25.28. Senior Monique Jessie (Compton, Calif.) was fourth in 25.32.

Teresa Brooks (junior, Spokane, Wash.) finished 10th in the 200m at 26.72 but was second in the 400m with a PR time of 59.15.

Senior thrower Shannon Rance (Renton, Wash.) won the shot put with a season-best toss of 46-feet, 6 inches (14.17m). Thrower Sarah Hineline (sophomore, Bellevue, Wash.) finished fourth in the weight throw with a PR of 48-5 1/2 (14.77m).

Cougar men's sprinters, or former Cougars, took seven of the top nine spots in the 60m dash. Anthony Buchanan (senior, Spokane, Wash.), running unattached, won the race in 6.87, followed by former WSU teammate Bennie Chatman in 6.88. James McSwain (sophomore, Las Vegas, Nev.), recovering from a high ankle sprain, finished third in a PR time of 6.90. Jarrell Nelson (freshman, Bremerton, Wash.) and Dan Brink (senior, Yacolt, Wash.) were fourth and fifth with times of 7.03 and 7.05, respectively. Nelson also finished third in the 200m dash with a PR time of 22.02 while McSwain was fourth in the 200m at 22.13.

 

 

Barry Leavitt (freshman, Benton City, Wash.) was the runner-up in the 400m dash with a time of 50.46 and Josh Leyk (sophomore, Veradale, Wash.) was fifth in 50.76. Leavitt ran a 60m hurdles time of 8.53 for third.

Freshman Chris Concha (Reno, Nev.) won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:58.01.

In the shot put, redshirt freshmen Cameron Neel (Woodinville, Wash.) threw 51-11 3/4 (15.84m) for second place while Mike Schramm (Spokane Valley, Wash.) tossed a 47-1 3/4 (14.37m) for eighth.

Saturday's meet served as a preparation for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships, taking place Feb. 26-28, at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the University of Washington campus.
